oops, i broke something

i added a search bar

so i broke lots of things. but i learned how to look up colors. lately i've been having to know more about RGB ratios, so tonight I referenced web safe palates.

1) i need to stick within the safe confines of a color wheel. and
2) i'm going to cheat over the weekend and use an editor to mark up a new template.

i'm tired of being bland beige.

now i'm a mixture of candy colored puke.

cell phone warning

as if we didn't have enough to worry about: an exploding cell phone (nextel) was on channel 2 news. a quick search returned similar stories with other vendors.

Guess that means I should wear an earpiece and carry the cell phone in a special container? WTF?

Stop. Drop. And.

eh, never mind.

the stork

is coming tomorrow.

actually, i'm going to pick-up a temporary guest.

of the feline variety.

i decided to foster a mommie-to-be-cat yesterday from kittykind...and they wanted to bring her over tonight. slight hiccup with transport, as their normal volunteer driver was busy for the eve. kind of a bummer, especially as it means i can't stay late at the project "M" event.

i've since moved most of my plants into the bathroom and bedroom. i decided against housing her in my bedroom (i just don't want any 'activity' under my bed. i'll get a big box. i'll do whatever, but i'm against having furballs where i sleep.)

avg. gestation period of a cat: 63 to 64 days

according to about.com.

i know nothing except she's very preggers. and was almost put to sleep tonight at the city pound.

sigh.

Entertaining in Sunnyside

Dinner at Dazies was fantastic. I kind of wish I was hungrier going in. I bet their tiramasu is worth tasting.

The Western Gazette (yes, there are newspapers for Queens) dining review from 2000 is still on target. Thinking about it, the food was unbelievable...but the service was awesome. I didn't notice it. It was unobtrusive. Nice. Everyone was nice. The owner not only bought us a round of drinks (two - but who's counting?), but roses.

ROSES.

I can't tell you the last time that happened.

"The owner would like to invite you to a drink at the bar."

Anything we wanted. Tara brilliantly suggested sambuca.

Starting at the beginning, Erin and Tara were troopers and came out to Sunnyside. I have a major headache to show for it, but had lots of fun last night. It's fun ot have conversations about things other than work. Now that I've sat around, I'm going to dress and head for Petco.

how appropriate

something called the cramp twins is on TV right now.

i woke up before sunset, and instead of getting up and watching I bemoaned the fact. any other day of the week, you know, that involves going to work, I can't get up. it's impossible. i'm too tired. or it's too cold. etc, etc.

but on a perfectly quiet satruday - sure!

oy.

but on the plus side, i got dressed and went on a bike ride. the cemetery behind the church is stunning. i want to go back when someone knows i'm going there. i'im creeped out by the thought of ghosts. or being murdered. pick one. they have these huge statues.

in looking for a picture, i stumbled across scenes of ny

and in it, among many other interesting tidbits, is something for scrabble fans alfred butts was a jackson heights resident. the link explains why there are numbers on the 35th ave street sign

i live near enough to LIC that there are warehouses that assemble glue, lightbulbs, panels and basically anything that requires copious amounts of labor from south american countries. i saw more men my heigth this morning, than i usually see in a week. and it wasn't evet 7.30am. off to work they went. uck. i need to find some advil.

THIS is what G o o gle is spending their money on?

lunar expansion?

Thursday

is a good thing, when the next day is a Friday. It always is a Friday, but, it's good when you're ready for it.

I had marathon meetings from 9am until 2.30pm. My first two went well, and i'm most happy about the interaction with sr.. ecommerce banking. i was "well prepared" and "clear".

Whatever.

Done.

1/2 tomrrow.

I worked until 12.30 Wednesday.

You know, to prepare.

Basically, to ask Y/N questions of an important person.

I can do this, but for more money.
Come on.

Gabriells Pizza isn't open until 11am on Sundays.

Eek.

I was trying to find something local instead of a national chain.

Hmm. Can i wait another 15 minutes to place the order, vs. having warm food here in 30.

Daaaaavid

Lett e r man

So funny.

he has a comedian on from pittsburg PA.

"i wish i'd known that refusing questions was an option"....in reference to the presendentail candidates deferring.

OH. Wait. I don't have the typing dexterity to go into details, but suffice it to say,
I was running victory laps end of day to day.

WHY?

b/c my manager heard what a freaking idiot my former (incompetent lazy ass) manager is.

and I quote,"I'm proud of you....blah blabh...and really disappointed in him"

"great job this week",..... "and that i should continue to hold myself similarly in future meetings with challenging situations"

and ther was more on the way out. (yes, i did run ot the elevator bank when I say him near the door, but i just wanted to say hello/goodbye as I worked from this morning - long story - but it had to do w/carbon monoxide poisoning alarm bells)

idiot.

maybe you're stupid

OH dear.

i don't usually watch abc late nights but the quest tonight just killed me. they put some guy as the bouncer at the palms hotel "where the power is being abused"

Funniest damn thing ever.

So people would line up trying into the bar, and would hear things like:

  • "sorry, you're a six. we don't need anymore sixes inside. plenty of blond girls already"....and then to the old guy in back....
  • "yea - nine. come in"

but's it's right up there with," no, no people from denmark allowed."

ANS: "maybe YOU"Re stupid!" (when the Finns try to explain where their country is.)

medicinal purposes of vodka

i'm left thinking for some as i let the vodka tonic i just consumed settle in.

sweet jesus. perhaps it was the sangria prep that did me in.
(but who's complaining?)

I don't know if the following URL will allow anyone to view...it's a wsj piece on how the russians are cracking down on public consumption of vodka.
no more street boozing. (if you want to read it and can't i can forward a url that doesn't require login)

When i first caught the article, i was shocked they actually had a statistic on the number of russians that die a year from drinking fake vodka.

Ah ha! the number is 37,000.

I wonder what other governements, if any, keep track of similar stats.

Two notable lines

Such high-mindedness has a precedent. In the mid-1980s, the Soviets tried to fight rampant alcoholism by curbing the production and sale of spirits. Vineyards were bulldozed and vodka distilleries closed. But the policy largely failed: Hardened drinkers brewed moonshine or switched to dangerous surrogates like cologne and bug spray

and

The young people who crowd Moscow's squares guzzle beer, often sold in two-liter plastic bottles, the way teens in the West drink soda.

beer isn't considered an alcholic beverage. perhaps that explains the 8% beer i consumed the other night.

shh.

i'm a democrat

even if by accident.

i updated my voter registration via moveonpac.org. i used the online form to populate a form i later printed out. (same as you'd pick up at the post office.) the last time round i was a registered undecided. largely done to minimize the number of calls from either major party.

i printed the materials at work, stamped, and mailed out a few weeks back. (I had no idea where to go to vote with all the moving i've done recently)

yesterday i rec'd 3 confirms:
- 1 transfer
- 1 confirmation
- 1 confirmation

So two confirmation of my lack of change (with the exception of mailing address). And one "change of status" which I know I did not specify (undecided to democratic)

I'm loathe to chase up on the error, as I suspect moveonpac.org may have 'helped' me switch from a non-party to theirs.

then again, i may be paranoid. clerical error?

whatever, i'm ready and armed to vote not for W. I wonder if my building has a rule on posting political signs in the window in front of the blind.

Hmmmm..

"run boys, run!"

Did I take your breath away?
Is this the best gift you've ever gotten?

I'm such a fan of Desperate Housewives!

(Not a good sign when a man's dog doesn't like you.)

double whammy

the oh so annoying social climbing real estate broker was booted from the apprentice. and in the ny times, i learned she was booted from douglas elliman. yes, her employer.

Michael

Michaels is coming to Queens.

In Woodside.

11 streets in. From my home. (Northern Blvd will require a bus. I think. But it's gonna be close. Opening next year, but I'm still excited.)

Tomorrow is the last day of the work week

And I'm pysched about that.

OK, so I missed the end of the Apprentice and want to know who got the boot. Was it the young looking socialite (who is super tiny)? Or the older scary woman?

I mean I only caught a glimpse on the way into the bathroom to wash up, but I need to know!!

For lunch we went to John's Pizza place on 44th as a going away for a team member. There were a lot of people, a lot of boys, and the need for beer.

Annoying to me as I had a diet coke, and paid premium.

Eck.

I owe Jim twenty bucks.

(I only twelve on me, so I had to mooch.)

I'm watching ER, but need to pack some weekend clothing. I'm going to visit the rentals for Fri/Sat. It's kind of nice to sit in the dark watching the boob tube. I say that, as I'm only wearing boxers. Scandalous. There's something to be said for living without roommates. Which is why I want to hurry back to my apartment in time to enjoy it Saturday night. Hard to explain, but so looking forward to it.

Mmmmm....perhaps I can open one of the north fork vineyard wines. OH! must remember to bring my parents their bottle. I know there's something I'm supposed to do, but can't think of it now. Well. Happy trails everyone. I'll in the city Sunday for some brunch if anyone's interested in a movie or similar. Actually. I may go to Home Depot. Oooo. I need paint. But I don't think I'll buy it there, but I 'll just go. Funny how the odd things excite.

OH. This weekend I can go to Michael's and order a frame for my Colombia print. Which means, I need to measure it. Ah ha.

Priceless

Just saw the cutest credit card commercial.

Ironing board, Iron
$62

Learning to cook
Priceless

...said as you see the kid using the iron to make grill cheese.

LOVE It.

super sunday ma'am

in the great treck out east, a crew of four of us visited four vineyards in the north fork today.

i need a country home.

i am sitting in the dark right now watching the end of Desperate Housewives. I have the twinge of a headache and I think it's sinus related. Next commercial I'll scrounge around for some drug. i'm saving my energy up to wash up and prep for bed.

i can't get over how beautiful today was. i want more days like this. the irony is that i'm privvy to a work related commercial right now. a commercial i'm sure cost more than the salary of 100 of people like me.

ho hum. how does one find a way?

eureka

Although super impressed with photowow most of the stuff there is too high of a price point to justify a gift certificate. (the recipient could end up with 3 mouse pads, a mug, or maybe a pillow).

giveanything is perfect in that they can pick and choose where and what.

now i just my dad to print one out for me.

it's too early

i went to bed a little before midnight. and woke up earlier than i have all week. i'm not sure if that's because i slept extraodinarily well, or if i'm going to regret it later. well, i know i'm going to regret it later. that's a given. it's sinful not to sleep late on a weekend. and even worse to wake up before the sun rises on Saturday - - unless you've been out painting the town.

but all i had last night were two russian beers from the supermarket. which, i think, is called food town. you'd think with the cha-tche key fob i have to hand over each time that would stick in my brain.

side side note - pay attention here - one of the 2 beers had 8 point something alc(!) the lower of the two beers had six. since when can you buy beer that makes you tipsy after one??

sweet bed

It's precious. I couldn't wait and put the new featherbed on my mattress.

Sleeping tonight is going to feel like a mound of pillows. Which is perfect since 'm super pooped from this week. Last night we went up to the Yankee's game, and the night before was book club. I need to run out and pick up some nail polish remover and my dry cleaning.

Tomorrow is the engagement party in NJ. Not sure what i'm wearing yet. I only know the estimated travel time is total 3 hours from my parent's house. And considering it usually takes an hour to get here to Queens, I'm going to be sitting in the car a lot tomorrow.

We're not staying late.
